At JAVER we commemorate Urban Month
09 November, 2023 by Javer
As every year, at JAVER we celebrate Urban October. This UN initiative opens the dialogue about the importance of cities in harmony with nature. Throughout the month, we participate in, collaborate on, and manage activities with our various stakeholders. This year, we had 12 different activities that brought us closer to relevant topics for our communities, our planet, and our company.
We started the month by joining "Experiencia Ciudad," an event by the 2023 Agenda Working Group for Sustainable Cities, of which we are a part. We visited spaces that promote sustainable environments, participated in the Sustainable Housing panel, and set the objectives and path forward for the Working Group.
Students from the Architecture, Urban Planning, and Civil Engineering programs at Tecnológico de Monterrey took on the Hackathon JAVER – TEC. You can read more about it on our blog.
Urban Gardens
Various synchronous activities were conducted with our communities, such as space recoveries and tree planting in our social interest nurseries, aiming to continue creating areas that foster a strong sense of belonging among our neighbors.
At Torre Luna, children competed by drawing their dream park. The winner was chosen through votes in the subdivision’s social media groups. Focused on this year's theme, “Resilient Urban Economies,” we sought to promote local economy and commerce through this event.
The urban garden was inaugurated, which our classroom students, in partnership with Construyendo y Creciendo, will manage in Valle de Lincoln. In Jalisco, our nursery hosted a workshop on urban gardens and another on composting with the Cima Serena community.
JAVER collaborators experienced this month closely with the first tree planting as an in-person volunteer event. These events, which had been halted due to the pandemic, finally returned to our activities, and 35 trees were planted in Pilares la Puerto, Salinas Victoria, Nuevo León.
Additionally, as part of the Projects team’s agenda, the annual meeting took place, where team members learned about the importance of the 2023 Agenda in our activities. Moreover, the “Living the SDGs at JAVER” program was conducted, in which collaborators learned about this crucial topic through an express conference and an afternoon of games.
EDGE Champion
Finally, after a first year of certifying 1,880 homes as EDGE and setting goals to certify at least 10,000 more homes by 2025, JAVER received the EDGE Champion award. Each year, the International Finance Corporation grants this recognition to developers committed to decarbonizing their project portfolios and meeting certain metrics.
EDGE, Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies, is the certification that validates our projects Muriel Residencial and Jardines de Magnolias 3 as sustainable due to their efficiency in water, energy, and embedded energy use in materials. Thus, on October 25 and 26, the award event was held in Washington D.C.
This is how we celebrate Urban October, focused on participating responsibly with actions that benefit our planet.
