The event took place in the INNOVaction GYM at TEC de Monterrey.

The pursuit of fresh ideas that promote innovation is a value that Javer has incorporated into its DNA through programs such as "Suma tu Idea" or "Premio Javer Sustentable." This Urban October was no exception. This was to celebrate promoting conversations about the importance of cities and their path toward sustainability.

Hackathon JAVER – TEC de Monterrey

In partnership with TEC de Monterrey, Javer launched a challenge for students from the Architecture, Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, and other related programs. The challenge was to dedicate a weekend (48 hours) to creating an urban preliminary project. The task was to lotify and equip a residential subdivision with sustainable elements. A specific plot of land, currently part of the company's land reserves, was chosen, and guidelines were set, such as accommodating between 280 and 300 houses on lots of specific sizes. Additionally, the project had to comply with state regulations regarding the percentage of green area to be preserved, the width of streets and sidewalks, and the construction materials to be used. The goal was to obtain realistic, profitable, innovative projects with a strong focus on sustainability.

The event started on Friday, October 20, with some words from Azael Capetillo, director of the INNOVaction GYM at TEC de Monterrey. He began by thanking the 30 participating students and the collaboration with Javer, while also highlighting the institution's values of innovation and humanism. Following this, Javer's Social Responsibility team presented the company to the students, outlining some of the actions aligned with the 2030 Agenda, and announced the challenge, marking the start of the hackathon. From that moment, 8 teams were formed and began developing their projects.

TEC offered various activities throughout the day to support the students in their creative process. They had guidance to understand the challenge and workshops on user persona and problem statement.

On the second day, the teams received mentorship from Javer specialists in projects, operations, land reserves, and construction. The four mentors played a crucial role in the realization of the projects. Additionally, professors from the Architecture and Engineering schools at TEC also provided mentorship to the students.

The third day started with a workshop on how to make a good pitch, which served as a foundation for the final presentations to the Javer jury. Each team had 10 minutes to present their project, followed by a Q&A session with the jury. The jury then congratulated each team for their excellent work and opened the doors of Javer for potential employment opportunities.

The final decision on the winners "was very difficult because all the projects were very different and each excelled in different areas," as mentioned by Verónica Lozano, Director of Planning, CSR, and IR, and Aleida Fonseca, Corporate Design Manager at Javer. The undisputed winners of Apple Watches, AirPods, and Echo Dot Alexas were the teams Cañadas, La Perla, and Mondur: Manantiales de la Sierra, respectively. These teams presented proposals that promote the integration of the original ecosystem into the subdivisions, the use of geography for creating common spaces, innovative housing designs, and different prototypes designed for the target customers.

We congratulate each participant for their outstanding work and reiterate that the doors of Javer are open for their immense potential. We also extend our congratulations to the Javer mentor team and thank them for their participation.
